CHAPTER - 8
MEMORY UNITS

Exercise

  1. Computer memory is the internal storage areas in the computer where data and information to be processed and instructions required for processing are stored.
  2. The computer's memory consists of many millions of bytes.
  3. Memory capacity of a computer is the amount of data that can be stored in the storage unit.
  4. The smallest unit of memory is Bit. Bit stands for binary digit. It can take only two values either 0 or 1.
  5. Cache memory is a type of memory used to hold frequently used data.
  6. Cache memory is very high speed semiconductors memory which can speed up CPU.
  7. Primary memory holds the data and instructions that are required by processor to perform an operation.
  8. The full form of RAM is Random Access Memory.
  9. A storage device which read and writes data at random is referred to as Direct Access device.
  10. The disk surface is divided into concentric circles (circles within circles) called tracks.
  11. Tracks are further divided into sectors, which hold a block of data that is read or written at one time.
